Executive Director
Job Summary: The Executive Director is an integral member of our team as they plan, coordinate, implement and manage operations with the Director of Development and Communications, Director of Operations, and Director of Program Services. The Executive Director is the key management leader of the organization and is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs, strategic plan as well as the financial management and daily operations of the organization. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing, community outreach and active participation in Assistance Dogs International and CPL’s current Capital Campaign. The Executive Director regularly advises the Board of Directors to ensure that the Board is fully informed of all organizational activities.
Job Description/Duties:
- Provide leadership and policy guidance for the entire organization including Assistance Dog International (ADI) Standards.
- Manage and direct all operations, programs and activities of the organization.
- Implement the policy decisions and directives of the Boards of Directors.
- Uphold and adhere to the policies and bylaws of the organization. Promote and set forth the regular evaluation and improvement of policies, procedures and practices within the organization with Board approval.
- Approve all financial disbursements and otherwise monitor all financial and accounting activities of the organization.
- Prepare the annual budgets with the assistance of the treasurer and finance committee.
- Develop, facilitate and implement a strategic plan with staff and the Board of Directors.
- Supervises and evaluates staff regularly; involved with the final approval of all new employee hiring. Knowledge of Human Resource matters.
- Represent the organization to other organizations, the media, and the public at large.
- Act as one of CPL’s primary spokespersons for the organization’s media and public announcements.
- Act as the primary and first point of contact for all media relations.
- Ensure all laws and regulations regarding canine care, training, and kennel are in place.
- Work directly with the Director of Program Services and have oversight on all aspects of service dog training.
- Coordinate with the Director of Development and Communication, to develop and implement comprehensive fundraising plans regularly.

- Possess a valid driver’s license and be able to drive CPL vehicles.
- The ability to work around a variety of animals while employed in this position.
- Bending, stooping/squatting, crouching/kneeling, climbing, standing, sitting, turning/pivoting are needed intermittently throughout the workday.
Attributes: The employee in this position should have excellent organization and management skills. This person should be detailed oriented and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. This person should build and form relationships easily and present a professional and knowledgeable image. Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills are needed to relate to client, staff, volunteers, the Board of Directors and the community at large.
Job Hours and Special Considerations: The hours for this position are 9am-5pm, Monday through Friday. Substantial time will need to be spent off-site for cultivation and research. Flexible time and off-site work are expected as activities and needs dictate. Weekend and evening hours will be expected for special events, training and public relations as needed. This position is an exempt position not subject to overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. This is a salaried position and there will be no overtime pay provided.

Immediate Supervisor: Board of Directors
Qualifications: Minimum bachelor’s degree or comparable experience. Experience in fundraising, marketing, public relations, financial analysis, and the nonprofit sector preferred. Perform office tasks using simple hand grasping, fine hand manipulation and reach associated with assigned tasks such as paperwork, keyboarding, filing, calculating, and use of telephone. Must be able to utilize technology for word processing, spreadsheet management, email, desktop publishing, virtual meeting, and database management. Utilize a wide variety of office equipment.
Preferred Qualifications: Professional work with canines. Hands on knowledge of the service dog industry, breeding, whelping, and training.
